Daniel Clayton speaks on The Tennessee Plan – which is the merit selection process for our Appellate Judges. “The Merit Selection system Tennessee has is an excellent system and widely respected across the United States,” Daniel says. “It allows the highest qualified attorneys to become appellate judges. The problem with statewide elections of appellate judges that some politicians want Tennessee to adopt is that it turns the process away from the individual who is most qualified to serve as judge and places the focus on the person who is the best politician. Appellate judges shouldn’t be politicians, beholden to special interest groups.” Daniel was asked to comment on the current system in the local paper.
