Passenger injured after driver starts drag race in Clarksville

Passengers can expect that the driver of the car they are riding in will get them to their destination without any dangerous driving. Passengers can assume that a driver will follow the law and drive with their safety in mind. When passengers are injured in a car accident, however, they can sue the driver if the driver was driving recklessly. A 24-year-old man was recently hospitalized at Vanderbilt after the driver of the car he was riding in crashed the car.

At the time of the accident, the 23-year-old driver was in a 2005 Honda Hybrid with the injured passenger and a 2-year-old female passenger. The crash happened in the early morning on Tiny Town Road. The driver started to race the unknown driver of a red car and it is unclear if the passenger consented to the race. As the 23-year-old rounded a curve, the driver of the other car drifted into his lane and the 23-year-old tried to move away from the car. The conditions, however, caused the driver to lose control of the car.

The Honda flipped over, knocked down an electrical pole, and landed on top of the uprooted pole. The car remained upside down and emergency responders had to remove the injured passenger, the driver and the 2-year-old. Although the passenger's injuries were not life-threatening, he was still rushed to Vanderbilt for treatment. The little girl was awake after spending nearly an hour waiting for firefighters to remove her from the vehicle. Clarksville Online reported that she had some abrasions, as well.

Had this young driver driven more carefully and responsibly, neither the passenger nor the little girl would have been injured. This accident appears to have been completely preventable, but unfortunately the passenger and the girl may suffer life-long effects of the driver's decision to drive recklessly.
